Our Mission: Addressing the Orphan Wells Crisis

The Well Done Foundation team is committed to tackling the environmental crisis caused by orphan wells. Our team consists of experts from numerous disciplines including plugging these abandoned oil and gas wells, reducing harmful methane emissions, and protecting our environment for future generations.

Why Plugging Orphan Wells Matters

Plugging orphan wells is crucial for environmental protection, public health, local ecology and combating climate change. These abandoned oil and gas wells can leak harmful pollutants, including methane—a potent greenhouse gas—into the atmosphere, contributing significantly to global warming. Additionally, they pose risks to groundwater, soil, and nearby ecosystems. By plugging these wells, we not only prevent further environmental damage but also reduce the potential hazards to communities living near these abandoned sites. The effort to plug orphan wells is a vital step toward a cleaner, safer future, addressing a legacy issue while promoting responsible energy practices.

BUYING CARBON CREDITS

Be a Carbon Hero

Did you know the average person creates 20 metric tons of CO2e every year?

WDF has created Blue Ribbon Climate Benefit Units™ (CBU Blues) to be sold to individuals and companies to offset their carbon footprints. The current offsets were created by the plugging of the Bluhm #007 (API#25-101-10074) orphan well, completed August 24, 2023, in Toole County, MT.

  • Obtain CBU Blues in any quantity you like.
  • Receive a WDF registered certificate authenticating your donation.
  • Your donation helps support the funding to plug more orphan wells.
  • Receive special access to scientific data regarding your carbon offset.

Thank You For Your Interest In Acquiring Climate Benefit Units!

Each unit is $25 and represents 1 metric ton of CO2e.

Let’s start with some basic information so we can keep detailed records on carbon credits sold.
