Why the Well Done Foundation? 

The Problem: Orphaned Wells and Climate Change

Across the United States, there are over 3.5 million orphaned wells, many of which leak methane—a potent greenhouse gas that is 80 times more harmful than carbon dioxide in trapping heat. These wells pose a major environmental hazard, contributing significantly to climate change and endangering communities.

Delivering Solutions: One Well at a Time

The Well Done Foundation has taken bold steps to address this issue:

• Developing Monitoring Programs: To quantify methane emissions and assess the environmental impact.
• Implementing Action Plans: Plugging and restoring orphaned wells to eliminate harmful emissions.
• Creating Carbon Financing Tools: Sponsoring the first-ever carbon methodology for well plugging with the American Carbon Registry to fund faster solutions.

To date, WDF has plugged 29 wells across multiple states, reducing more than 500,000 metric tons of CO2e, equivalent to taking thousands of cars off the road.
