Well Summary
The Anderson #1 Oil Well in Northern Toole County, Montana was positioned at 3,530’ above Sea Level on the Northeastern slope of the Kevin-Sunburst Dome at Township 35N, Range 1W, Section 29. With the Derrick erected, drilling began on August 10, 1924 and for 25 days straight was drilled to a final depth of -1,545’ from the surface and completed on September 3, 1924. Located just north of the Ferdig Area, the Anderson #1 Well was drilled by the Western Drilling Company for the Operator C.A. Remington, a small independent producer, who leased the mineral acreage from T. C. Anderson.
Over 95 years ago this Well came on line and produced Crude Oil up until the early 1990’s. The last operator, Cavalier Petroleum, filed Bankruptcy in in the 1992 and Anderson #1 became an Orphaned Oil Well, designated by the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation shortly thereafter.
Adoption Details
The Well Done Foundation and Well Done Montana LLC identified the Anderson #1 Well in September of 2019 as a possible candidate of for their adoption program and began monitoring emission factors of >85.0% CH4. Well Done entered into a Right of Entry with the Surface Owners and formally adopted the well by filing a Bond and Change of Operator with the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation, which was approved on December 3, 2019.
A Dynamic Flux Chamber was then placed over the open well bore and the protocolled testing began with the intent to collect and record twelve (12) months of data while preparing the Plugging, Abandonment & Restoration Program (PAR) Plan for review and approval of the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation. This well is scheduled to be finally plugged, sealed and the surface area restored in October, 2020.
