ALLEN #030

STATUS:
Unplugged
The Allen #030, a Legacy Orphan Oil Well in Toole County, Montana was drilled in July of 1929, by Big West Oil Company and supported the local Refinery for years. This well became an Orphan in the early 1990’s when the last operator, Cavalier Petroleum, went out of business and the well formally became the responsibility of the State of Montana where it had sat idle and emitting harmful greenhouse gases. The Allen #030 Orphaned Well had a greenhouse gas emission factor of over 2,208.35 metric tons of CO2e…equaling 479 automobiles, and with your support of the CBU Blue Program, those emissions will be permanently eliminated! The Well Done Foundation identified the Allen #030 Well in January of 2020 as a possible candidate of for their adoption program and began monitoring emission factors of >588,000 ppm of CH4 (methane gas). Well Done entered into a Right of Entry with the Surface Owners and formally adopted the well by filing a Bond and Change of Operator with the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation (MBOGC) on April 8, 2022. Measurement instrumentation was placed at the well and the protocolled testing began with the intent to collect and record data in 2021 while preparing the Plugging, Abandonment & Restoration Program (PAR) Plan for review and approval of the MBOGC. This well is generously sponsored in part by the Youth Climate Initiative, and many other Well Done Foundation donors. The Allen #030 is scheduled to be plugged beginning late September 2024 by a local Service Company and the work is being approved by the Montana Board of Oil & Gas Conservation. The surface restoration will be completed this summer and WDF post-closure monitoring will continue annually for ten years. BLUE RIBBON CLIMATE BENEFIT UNITS CREATED: 2,208.35

BUYING CARBON CREDITS

Be a Carbon Hero

Did you know the average person creates 20 metric tons of CO2e every year?

WDF has created Blue Ribbon Climate Benefit Units™ (CBU Blues) to be sold to individuals and companies to offset their carbon footprints. The current offsets were created by the plugging of the Bluhm #007 (API#25-101-10074) orphan well, completed August 24, 2023, in Toole County, MT.

  • Obtain CBU Blues in any quantity you like.
  • Receive a WDF registered certificate authenticating your donation.
  • Your donation helps support the funding to plug more orphan wells.
  • Receive special access to scientific data regarding your carbon offset.

Thank You For Your Interest In Acquiring Climate Benefit Units!

Each unit is $25 and represents 1 metric ton of CO2e.

Let’s start with some basic information so we can keep detailed records on carbon credits sold.
