Gish A #35

The Gish A #35 Gas Well in Caddo Parish, Louisiana was spudded on October 24, 2000 and drilling completed November 15, 2000 to a final depth of 755’ into the Nacatoch formation. The well was placed into service on August 1, 2001. It became an orphan in 2019 when the last operator, Roy D. Gish, went out of business and the well formally became the responsibility of the State of Louisiana. The Well Done Foundation identified the Gish A #35 Well in November of 2021 as a possible candidate for its adoption program and began monitoring emission factors of CH4 (methane gas) at more than 500,000 ppm with over 2,000 metric tons per year of estimated CO2e emissions, equal to 500 automobiles. Well Done entered into a Right of Entry with the surface owners and formally adopted the well by filing a Change of Operator with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Office of Conservation December 1, 2021. Measurement instrumentation was placed at the well and the protocoled testing began with the intent to collect and record data while preparing the Plugging, Abandonment & Restoration Program (PAR) plan for review and approval of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. This well has been sponsored in part by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and VitalECO, as well as many other Well Done Foundation donors. It was plugged on Earth Day 2022 (April 22, 2022) and is undergoing post-closure monitoring prior to the surface area restoration.
